Juz finished a bag of Jack n Jill's chips. *winces at the amt of carbo and saturated fats that has gone inside my body*. but ahhhh... what the heck. =)
attended the CED 101lecture given by Mr Lachlan Crawford today. Awesome lecture in my opinion.
The lecture was on the paradigm shift from efficiency driven education to ability driven education. Mr Carwford drew a diagram and compared us to raw materials undergoing factory processing and eventually becoming a finished product. "When you receive ur certificate from the vice-chancellor, in his right hand he will hold ur certificate and in his left, he will be holding a rubber stamp. As u receive your certificate, he will stamp on ur forehead a logo reading 'Made In Singapore'." I laughed at that. It made me really think deeper into our current education system. what were we achieving? did we really enjoy what we were doing?
"You're being manipulated by your government," he says. i couldn't have agreed with him more. Where was all these streaming going? Students being streamed at a young age - i don't think academic grades reflected what the child really wanted. He then told us the story of the animal school, the ending being the animals, not able to do what they were good at, became streamed into the EM3 stream. This was the result of schools wanting their pupils to excel in everything and becoming an all rounder. truth is, not everyone can become an excellent all rounder. more often than not, we find ourselves excelling in one thing and failing in another. i'm good with my languages but suck at my maths and science. its the same for my blur prince. he excels in maths and science but sucks in his languages. (anyone notice we're polar opposites? haha but dun forget opposites attract ^^)
ok. hafta stop rambling now. gotta go for welfare sub comm interview~!
